Positive Adversions Project, Genrothes, Scotland
A UNIQUE project harnessing horsepower to help pupils from a Glenrothes secondary school realize their potential has continued to have a positive impact upon the pupils involved.
The project continues to be supported by Glenrothes Community Police Officers at Kinshaldy Riding Stables in North East Fife, as part of their commitment to being there for the Community. For the second year in a row, pupils who may be experiencing difficulties have benefited from an alternative curriculum. This year the project has been funded by the Emile Faurie Foundation. The Foundation is a registered Charity which primarily helps disadvantaged children where youngsters have an opportunity to take riding lessons and benefit from the tremendous advantages of being around horses. The school's Behaviour Support Teacher Carol Wilson said of the ongoing project " I am very proud that a sportsman of the caliber of Emile Faurie has recognised what we are doing and has seen fit to give us funding. Emile felt that our project helps those who are experiencing difficulties to be able to benefit from this opportunity. We are the first school in Scotland to receive such an award. I am also planning a sponsored silence in school with the pupils involved to raise funds for World Horse Welfare and we are planning a visit to Aboyne to see the sanctuary there too." Glenrothes Community Constable Jill Robertson said of her involvement with the project " This positive diversion project for school pupils has provided students with the opportunity to be actively involved in what is a rewarding and stimulating environment. Such opportunities without doubt impact positively on those involved as they develop a rapport with the animals, those at the stables and with the police too." |
